Mental Health Support

Caring for the Whole Athlete

At Strong Start Initiative, we know that athletic performance is only one part of a student athlete’s story. Behind every game, practice, and workout are young people balancing school pressures, personal challenges, and the expectations that come with competition.

For many, those pressures can lead to stress, anxiety, burnout, or feelings of isolation — especially in underserved communities where mental health resources are limited or out of reach. That’s why we make mental wellness a core part of our mission.

Why Mental Health Matters in Athletics

When athletes have access to mental health support, they:

  • Perform better both on and off the field
  • Develop healthy coping skills for life’s challenges
  • Build resilience, confidence, and self-esteem
  • Maintain stronger relationships with teammates, family, and friends

Neglecting mental health can put a young person’s well-being, academic success, and sports participation at risk. We’re here to make sure they get the care they need.

Breaking the Stigma
